Seoul city gov't lists top 100 places to eat, drink in capital

By Xu Aiying

The Seoul Metropolitan Government on Oct. 21 released a list of the city's top 100 restaurants, cafes or bars based on recommendations from 45 domestic gourmet experts.

The Seoul Gourmet 100, a leading culinary guide since 2020, is based on careful selections by domestic culinary pundits including food and beverage content experts, travelers and journalists. The criteria includes creativity, expertise and popularity to promote the capital's distinct culinary culture to the world.

The 100 establishments were classified into seven categories: 21 Hansik (traditional Korean food); 14 Asian; 23 Western; 11 grill, 10 vegetarian; 10 cafes or dessert stores; and 11 bars and pubs.

The city also ranked its top 50 vegetarian places. Reflecting trends highlighting the planet's health and value of sustainable cuisine, separate attention went to brunch cafes and Buddhist temple food.

In addition, Taste of Seoul Week, slated from Nov. 8-14 on Nodeulseom Island and throughout Seoul, will feature programs under the theme "Invitation to a Weeklong Gourmet Tour of Seoul."

More information on the list is available on Taste of Seoul's official website (tasteofseoul.visitseoul.net).
